Course Description
This race starts with a .25 mile run up the dirt road to allow some room to gain position before getting on the single track trail.
After .4 miles on the single track you are on double track for about a mile. At mile 1.95 start a steady climb up the cool, lush valley as the trail crosses the stream 11 times. At mile 3.1, leave the stream and start a .4 mile lung burner climb. This section is steep, but it is short. Keep pushing, it is over before you know it.
At mile 4.0 turn right at the junction for a short .2M gradual climb to the top. The descent is rocky, but fast. Take a moment to enjoy the great view of Mt. Evans to the south. Descend the 4 or so switch backs to the 1st aid station at mile 5. Stock up. This is the only aid station and you have a grueling 1,100 ft. climb ahead of you. From the aid station head right and down hill past the lake. Go left at the city lights ridge trail and turn left on the Burro trail. This trail has a short steep descent before it starts its long 1,100 ft, 2 mile climb.
Turn left at the first Burro junction that heads to the top of Windy Peak. Just remember when you are suffering at this point - it is all worth the phenomenal view from the top of Windy Peak and the descent is fast, fun and furious!
Go left at the next junction following the signs to the top of Windy Peak. Stay left at the next junction. Punch your bib at the top of Windy Peak - take in the beauty that surrounds you do a dance and turn around and head back down. Stay on the Burro Trail, again passing the cut off to Lions loop and go left at the Burro junction (opposite where you came up from). Enjoy this screaming down hill and turn right at the next trail junction. Go right on the service road. Continue downhill and straight on the service road.
Take a right on the Burro single track trail, stay right following the creek. Pass the junction which you took to climb Windy Peak and head back up the short climb to Lions Loop and Bridge Creek. Turn left on Lions loop. From here you have 3 short climbs on the ridge heading back to the parking lot. Each successive climb is easier than the previous. After this 3rd little bump, enjoy the fast down hill back to the parking lot. At the bottom of the short steep descent down to the road, take a sharp right turn to the road and to the finish line.
